# Purpose and core MeOS is intended to help you record, organize and understand information about your life. Accounting is its first working capability; the foundation supports other domains as their capabilities are developed. ## The core idea A vector records a quantified event: when it happened, its magnitude, and its source and destination. It also has an identity. Nodes identify the things connected by the event. Attributes and relationships hold additional information outside that basic record. The event remains the same when you look at it from another perspective. A capability supplies the tools and interpretation relevant to its domain without changing the core primitive. ## Capabilities build on the foundation Accounting currently supplies accounts, businesses, categories, statement import and classification. Future capabilities could work with time or other measurable activity using the same foundation. Their tools and meanings belong to those capabilities. Different measurements remain distinct. Recording a payment does not automatically record time spent, and choosing a category does not imply another interpretation. ## What works now You can configure Accounting, import CSV statements and classify their transactions. Additional import methods and broader transaction views are planned. Other life domains are not yet available. Start with [Accounts and businesses](../accounting/setup.md), or read [Using documentation](../documentation/reader.md).
